Well this week’s photo idea for Project 52 was really a last minute entry. My son’s first tooth started wobbling a week ago at our friend’s house and he has spent the last week wobbling and touching it countless times … followed by me wobbling and touching it countless times trying to guestimate when it would fall out.

Although it was an extremely long time ago since I had wobbly teeth, as soon as I wobbled his memories of that ‘loose tooth’ feeling came flooding back and it seemed like only yesterday! Suffice to say, we have both been very excited and the build up to his first tooth falling out was memorable to say the least with squeals of giddiness (from us both!).

I don’t mind saying that when he phoned me yesterday morning from his grandparents to say “guess what mummy…”, I was absolutely gutted that I wasn’t there to witness it. I really did feel like I’d missed out on one of those ‘first time moments’ and he was so excited when he later showed me his tooth, carefully wrapped in tissue.

After a few moments, he looked up and said “I don’t feel normal anymore”. I think this is the pivotal moment (in his mind) when he feels like he is a grown up and I feel like my little boy is growing up. He is still my little boy but children really do grow up so quickly it’s scary and amazing at the same time. This little boy is the person that inspired me to take up photography and continues to inspire me every day.
